<br />
It's been a while.<br />
<br />
Yes, it's taken me 16 days to get around to the "use the blog" resolution, but I'm sitting on my bed doing my best to get through an entire box of kleenex in one day, so it's as good a time as any.<br />
<br />
What's on tap for this year?<br />
<br />
A JOB. I have my license back and have been flinging my resume at any job that includes women's health, hoping one will stick. I have been asked back for round 2 of interviews for one (the only one that has actually asked me for a first interview), and that's scheduled for Wednesday.<br />
<br />
I've been SAHM dressing for the past 13, almost 14, years. Meaning jeans and t shirts. Yoga pants. Velour sweats. FLANNEL PJ PANTS. Having to go out into the world to get a job means I have had to examine my clothing choices. And examining some of my clothing choices leads me to realize that I have been wearing the same things for at least 5 years, and usually 10 years. But SAHM = no income and no need to be fancy.<br />
<br />
And really, this job will have me working in the functional equivalent of my pjs. #1 reason to be a nurse right there. Scrubs are awesome.<br />
<br />
But the rest of the time? I need a new look. Like Bernadette on Big Bang Theory. She's adorable. I need a fashion adviser. That's my plan, and another resolution. So far I have 4.<br />
<br />
1. Get a job.<br />
2. Be more deliberate in my friendships - meaning take the time to connect and DO THINGS with my friends instead of just chatting on facebook.<br />
3. Use the blog more.<br />
4. Make a wardrobe that I actually like and will wear instead of spending all my time in loungewear. As I type this I'm wearing pink flannel pants and a Piggly Wiggly t shirt. I have a way to go. I forget where I saw how to do it this way --if it was a tutorial or someone showed me-- so when Lisa asked me I couldn't tell her how to find it.<br />
So here goes.<br />
<br />
Step 1:<br />
Sew your seam with the normal seam allowance, with the wrong sides together. It feels wrong. Do it anyway.<br />
<div id="allsizes-photo" style="text-align: center;">
<img src="https://farm9.staticflickr.com/8591/16194437209_14cf73aea1_n.jpg" /> </div>
<div id="allsizes-photo" style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div id="allsizes-photo" style="text-align: left;">
2: Trim one side of your seam, but leave the other one long<br /><div id="allsizes-photo" style="text-align: center;">
<img id="yui_3_11_0_3_1422368817552_415" src="https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7389/16194440569_996ee82f72_n.jpg" /> </div>
<div id="allsizes-photo">
</div>
<div id="allsizes-photo">
3. Press your seam toward the long side<div id="allsizes-photo" style="text-align: center;">
<img src="https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7396/16379765662_3ca0c37044.jpg" /> </div>
<div id="allsizes-photo">
</div>
<div id="allsizes-photo">
4. Fold the long side over the short side, so your cut edge lines up with the seam you sewed and press it down<br /><div id="allsizes-photo" style="text-align: center;">
<img src="https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7324/16194781347_667e8516b4.jpg" />
</div>
</div>
</div>
<div id="allsizes-photo">
and it looks like this<br /><div id="allsizes-photo" style="text-align: center;">
<img src="https://farm9.staticflickr.com/8647/16193278310_2701a6a947.jpg" /> </div>
<div id="allsizes-photo">
</div>
<div id="allsizes-photo">
5. Fold this bit over and press it down, so your raw edge is all snugged in there and can't get out. <br /><div id="allsizes-photo" style="text-align: center;">
<img src="https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7349/16194434129_98ba770ec2.jpg" /> </div>
<div id="allsizes-photo">
See? It looks great! But you still have to sew it down. <br /><div id="allsizes-photo" style="text-align: center;">
<img src="https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7409/16193292820_e1dcba1015.jpg" /> </div>
<div id="allsizes-photo">
</div>
<div id="allsizes-photo">
6. Sew it down, getting as close to the folded edge as you're comfortable with <br /><div id="allsizes-photo" style="text-align: center;">
<img id="yui_3_11_0_3_1422369204439_415" src="https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7435/16194469339_7b84a334f0.jpg" /> </div>
<div id="allsizes-photo">
</div>
<div id="allsizes-photo">
Done! It looks professional, and it wears well. I do this for the center seams in pants. It takes a little longer, but most of it is done with the iron so you don't get little folds and bunches once it's sewed down. There's probably an easier way to do it, but this is the way that works for me. <br /><div id="allsizes-photo" style="text-align: center;">

I wanted it to be simple so it would work with variegated yarn if I had some I wanted to use, but it also needed a see through bit so you'd know when it was time for a refill.<br />
Enter, the quart cozy<br />

Most everybody knows that we have gotten a new puppy. We named him Hagrid, because he is hairy and not at all large. He is cute and takes a lot of time. I still miss Loki, but having a puppy around helps.<br />
<div id="allsizes-photo" style="text-align: center;">
<img src="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7420/13039339073_7ba7aafc68.jpg" /> </div>
<div id="allsizes-photo" style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div id="allsizes-photo" style="text-align: left;">
In other news, I FINALLY finished Rowan's Christmas present. Yes, I know it's March. It was a complicated knit, on size 2 needles. Frankly, I'm proud of myself for getting it done in 3.5 months. We had all that stuff happening, and Rowan had a surgery, and I simply had to take breaks from it to maintain my sanity. The front wasn't hard at all, but miles of stockinette on tiny needles has its own brand of peril.</div>
<div id="allsizes-photo" style="text-align: left;">
But now, behold... The Vest. Be aware that this is not blocked. He couldn't wait for that to wear it. I'll block it later so I can enter it in the Carolina Fiber Fest.<br />

<div id="allsizes-photo" style="text-align: left;">
</div>
<div id="allsizes-photo" style="text-align: left;">
It's not terribly impressive from the front, but that's a lot of knitting. Keep your hats on for the back.</div>

<div id="allsizes-photo" style="text-align: left;">
</div>
<div id="allsizes-photo" style="text-align: left;">
I believe this deserves nothing less than a SHAAAA-ZAAAM! And it's big on him. He can wear it for years. </div>

It's about 90 minutes of musical cacophony as the students show us what they've been up to in their hours after school. This was Rowan's first year playing in the band, and he really enjoys it.<br />
<br />
This is video number 1. There was some sort of student being ready malfunction between songs, so the wait with nothing happening got really long. I ended up stopping this one and starting another video once they were ready to play again, so you can save yourself some time by hitting the stop button on this one once the song is done.<br />

It's like you were there! Except you missed the beginner violins, the advanced violins, the violin solo, the advanced band, the sterling band, the sterling singers, and the sterling stars. I could have taped it all, but Merry Christmas!Millihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09000689929492219923noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-16276526.post-67813984736485675522013-12-11T22:19:00.000-05:002013-12-11T22:19:28.251-05:00Santa visit 2013<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Rowan asked for a Telescope. Niall asked for Snap Circuits Extreme. Eleri asked for a Minnie Mouse umbrella.<br />
<br />
I've been fretting the evening away though. Sally started out the trip with us, but somewhere somehow she went missing. Eleri has no clue because of the backup Sally, but I've been completely over-emotional about it. I'm hoping Sally is located. We still have 2, and Eleri is unaware, but no one else will know just how important Sally is. I know I'm anthropomorphizing my daughter's stuffed friend, but I can't help it. I've bought the package from Lifetouch every year, and they're not bad, but I feel like I've gotten good enough to take my own pictures from now on. Either I'm good enough, or I'm cheap enough! lol<br />
<br />
I posted a set on facebook, and everyone had different opinions about which one was best, so I just picked my favorites.<br />
<br />
Here is Rowan's 6th grade picture<br />

<br />
Niall was a shadow. Eleri was Sally the mouse. Rowan was a fox.<br />

<div id="allsizes-photo" style="text-align: center;">
We carved pumpkins after school, but Niall pooped out on doing his. He chose a complicated design. Oh well.</div>
<div id="allsizes-photo" style="text-align: center;">
I carved Eleri's after she chose the design, and Rowan carved his own.<br />

It's hard to believe, isn't it?</div>
<div id="allsizes-photo" style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div id="allsizes-photo" style="text-align: left;">
Eleri has had a great birthday. She got lots of presents, had a party with her friends, and in general feels like a special little person. What more can we ask for? Birthday photo set located here: <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/45427621@N00/sets/72157636977253944/" target="_blank">Eleri's 5th Birthday</a></div>

<br /></div>
<div id="allsizes-photo" style="text-align: left;">
We also got the news from the endocrine doctor. Everything looks the same as it did before, so we can keep on as we're keeping on, and they'll see her again in April. :)</div>
<div id="allsizes-photo" style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div id="allsizes-photo" style="text-align: left;">
It's hard to believe that next year she'll be in kindergarten. Crazy. What am I going to do without my little shadow?</div>
Millihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09000689929492219923noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-16276526.post-54072906367169690442013-10-22T18:34:00.002-04:002013-10-22T18:34:44.499-04:00The birthday starts earlyEleri got a bit of her birthday fun early this week. We had to take the van to the shop for the scary noise it was making (no big deal, heat shield is now tightened, yay!) and I had taken her car seat out just in case we needed to put it in the green car to get somewhere.<br />
I'd been planning to turn her forward facing for her birthday but I didn't want to install her car seat rearfacing only to turn it forward in less than a week, so we turned it early.<br />
<div id="allsizes-photo" style="text-align: center;">
<img src="http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5543/10429655355_c73303a522.jpg" /> </div>
<div id="allsizes-photo" style="text-align: left;">
She loves it. She keeps saying "weeee!" and says that she loves looking forward. She looks so BIG to me now!</div>
<div id="allsizes-photo" style="text-align: left;">
</div>
<div id="allsizes-photo" style="text-align: left;">
Putting her forward facing meant that we needed to drag the other seat out of the shed to put it in the van, so she could be behind the driver. More convenient for me during the day - especially since that door is the one that works well. The one on the passenger side is stupid and takes an act of congress to get open, and we all know how well that's been working lately...</div>
<div id="allsizes-photo" style="text-align: left;">
But to get the seat out of the shed, John had to take a bunch of the outside toys out to get to it. One of those things was the bike I'd been saving for Eleri's birthday. She saw it and there was no going back. So, another birthday present early. She loves her new bike, too!<br /><div id="allsizes-photo" style="text-align: center;">

<div id="allsizes-photo" style="text-align: left;">
We saw the endocrine people today. I found that shirt about a month ago. Isn't it perfect for her?</div>
<div id="allsizes-photo" style="text-align: left;">
The good news - Eleri has grown 2cm in the last 5 months. We no longer have to cuff the legs of the jeans that we had to cuff twice last year. Hooray!</div>
<div id="allsizes-photo" style="text-align: left;">
But her growth velocity is still only at 4.8cm a year. They really want it to be at least 5cm, but since it's almost there we can do a little more watchful waiting, maybe. They took 3 tubes of blood today to run some more growth hormone tests. If she's at the same level as she was last time, or has gone up, we'll continue to wait and watch. If her level is lower, they want to go ahead with the full growth hormone stim test. They'll call with results in a couple of weeks and we'll go from there.<br />
<br />
<u>Official Stats </u><br />
<br />
Height: 92.9cm or 3 feet and 0.58 inches<br />
