I am officially a soccer mom

Rowan had his first soccer game today.
It was perfect weather. 60something degrees, sunny, fun.
He had his initial freak out, like he does with anything new, but after sitting on my
lap for a while and watching the other kids play he was ready to go. And boy did he go!
He plays for the Bolts. Part of the YMCA league for 5 and 6 year olds.
Today they played the Thunder. Bolts won: 3-2.

Oh, and his teeth aren't black. He's wearing a mouth guard.
The orthodontist on his craniofacial team was pretty adamant about that.
Luckily, he's buying into the cool pro sports player angle.

I took some video too.

I promised an update this weekend

I was all set to do a nice big update this weekend, looking forward to posting pictures of Rowan at his first ever soccer game. Yes, I have officially joined the ranks of the soccer mom. Now all I need is some sort of wagon or minivan and the picture will be complete.
Alas, all the rain we've had all week meant the field was a swamp, and Coach Scott called us Saturday morning with the sad news that it was much too wet for soccer. So we stayed home and watched the 101 Dalmatians instead.
We get by the best we can.

All the wet made it hard for the wool to dry as well.
Jessica's britches

and her soaker

Both took an obscene amount of time to dry. I can't find the box fan or I would have sped it along a little bit. But John just finished putting the floor in the attic, so the shed should be considerably less scary in a while. But now they are dry and ready to go. So on to the next.

But the next is having a time deciding on her wool, so I started something else that I've always been meaning to do. A log cabin blanket. But not just any log cabin blanket. A log cabin blanket that is so bright, it just might burn your retinas if you stare at it for too long. You have been warned.

The yarn is Lion Brand Microspun. It is soft. It is bright. Rowan is in love with it. Niall tries to steal the yarn a ball at a time. Kim bought it a long time ago when I was teaching her to knit and she went nuts in the store. But she ended up passing it on to me, and now here I am. Knitting the most freakishly bright log cabin blanket on the face of the planet.
It's so cheerful I think it might start dancing.
